Hi,

We are looking for records on Patrick Quigley who was married to Mary van Lane.

He was the father of Michael Quigley born in 1788

Michael Quigley died in 1873 and is buried in the peoples cemetary in Tryon, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

  • Hi Wayne,

I searched www.rootsireland.ie/ baptisms/births for Patrick Quigley and only got 3 matches: 1772 Dublin and 1778 in Louth Kilkenny & Donegal; none of these fits with Michael's birth in 1788 unless Patrick was only 16 at the time.

Do you happen to know the source of the record that says he married Mary Van Lane?

  • Dear Col,

Thank you for your email, and for making a search.  We do not know the source of the record that says he married Mary Van Lane.  The parents of Michael Quigley were initially mentioned in a short "memoir" a lady named Mildred Clark wrote about her family's ancestry for the local historical society in Tryon, and seems to have been based on either a family bible or family lore.  The parentage was then mentioned in a book about the families, again with no proof.  We assume the information is basically correct, but Patrick could be a second or third name, perhaps John Patrick, for instance.  We cannot find a trace of a Patrick or Mary Quigley in Prince Edward Island, so do not believe they ever came here.  The first instance we have of the Quigley family is a land transcation of Michael Quigley (their son) transferring land to his sons.  Michael was married to Mary Clark.

Is it possible to search for a Michael Quigley, born in 1788, and see if the parents match?

    Thanks again.

    Wayne

  • Hi Wayne,

Good suggestion - gave it a shot - searched for Michael Quigley born 1788 parents Patrick & Mary but no joy I'm afraid.

Closest were 1786 Kildare & 1790 Limerick but parents not Patrick & / or Mary.
