My wifes great grandmother was Mary T. Farrel baptised at Carriftohill on 28 ar 1858 daughter of John Farrell and Mary Buckley.  She also had a younger sister baptized in Carrigtowhill in 1863.  John and Mary were married in Carrigtohill on 21 Oct 1849.

Mary Farrell immigrated to the US and married in Philadelphia.  Wlould love to find out what happened with the rest of her familiy and connect with any Farrells or Buckleys still in the area.

  • Hi Bruce,

Looks like it was quite a big family. These records are from www.rootsireland.ie/:

    Eldest was William:

    Name:William FarrellDate of Birth:
    Date of Baptism:12-Sep-1852Address:B. AnanParish/District:CARRIGTWOHILLGender:MaleCountyCo. Cork
    Denomination:Roman Catholic

    Informant 2:Ann Farrell

Then followed Patrick 1854 John 1856 Michael 1859 Ann 1863 all born Carrigtwohill

The remaining 4 were from Midleton parish:

    Name:Edmund FarrallDate of Birth:

    Thomas 1868 Joseph 1870 Richard 1873

The parents' marriage record on roots doesn't have bride & groom's parents' names so I couldn't go any further back.

To find out what happened to them all you could try the 1901 & 1911 Censuses (free at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/); there are 466 Farrells in Cork in the 1901!

I had a look at the death/burials for Farrells in Cork on roots but there were only 7 and none were from Carrigtwohill.

I checked the Irish phone book (www.118.ie/) but there were no Farrells in Carrigtwohill.

In case you haven't checked them, the National Library of Ireland has made the R C registers freely available https://registers.nli.ie. There are Carrigtwohill records there.

Also, www.irishgenealogy.ie/ is good for Cork records
