Hello

I'am a researcher in the US and I am having a hard time locating a birth register for a Charles Farrelly son of Terence. He was born May 1844 in Cavan but we are unsure of the parish...any help would be appreciated

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland for a baptismal record for Charles Farrelly with father Terence and found no record. Are you aware of his mother's maiden name or the names of any siblings?

There are at least ten Co. Cavan RC parishes which have baptismal records starting later than 1844 so it is possible his baptism occurred in one of those parishes and then the records for that period were lost.

I also looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Cavan. There were five Terence Farrelly records. Now we don't know if Terence was still alive in 1855 and whether he was leasing land but possibly your Terence is one of the five.

After you get back to me, we can pursue the Griffiths leads.

I searched Roots Ireland using Terence Farrelly and McManus for the spouse maiden name in Co. Cavan and received three baptismal records where the father was Ternece and the mother was Anne McManus--- Catherine 1856 Eliza 1858 Eleanor 1860. The RC parish was Templeport and records for that RC parish start at least 1836 so I ruled out that family.

Going back to the Griffiths, there were three different civil parishes where a Terence Farrelly was leasing land. Three of the record were in Mullagh civil parish and Mullagh RC records start in 1842 so ruled out that civil parish. There was a Terence Farrelly in Enniskeen civil parish but the RC records for Kingscourt/Enniskeen parish start in 1838 so ruled out that parish. Finally, there wasa Terence Farrelly in Claragh townland in Kildallan civil parish. The RC parish for Kildallan has records starting in 1867 so I think this are would be the best lead on where your family came from.
