I have a favour to ask of a local volunteer in the Virginia, Cavan area.  My GrGrGrandfather, Felix McCann had a draper's shop at 95 Main Street, Virginia.  It was a large property that included a house and a spirit-grocery (run by his wife Catherine McPhillips) with back access.  He became bankrupt and the early maps now show the property may have become a National School at some point.  Sometimes called Headfort School.  At least I think it is the same property.  It seems Main Street was re-numbered in 1914 and No 95 may have become No 24.

I have tried to find the property on Google Earth but the buildings don't have numbers displayed.  If you have a volunteer somewhere in that area, I would really appreciate a photo or two of this property as it stands today.

Thank you

Carol

  • I should have found the Cavan message board before posting this.  Is someone able to move it to County Cavan for me?
