My Gr Gr grandparents: Susan (Susanam) Fitzpatrick and Patrick Crew (marriage record Krea) were married 04/04/1843 in the Parish Urney, Co Cavan. Found in the Catholic Parish Registers 1655-1915.
Witnesses at the marriage were Francis Moran and *Bridget Flood.
Patrick and Susan traveled to NZ 1849 with three children: Mary Anne, Henry baptised 1847 (RC) T/L Urney, Parish of Kilmore., and Eliza baptised Jan,1849 (RC) T/L Urney, Parish of Kilmore.
I am trying to confirm Susan Fitzparick's birth etc.
I found a possibility in the 1821 census for Cullintragh, Castletara.
Father John (30)
Mother Mary (40)
Siblings Mary (18), Thomas (11), James (9), Bridget (5), Ellen (3) and Susan who was under 1.
*Bridget Flood : A Bridget Flood was recorded in the 1821 Census for Carraluber, Castleara aged 3.
I cannot guarantee Susan was born 1820/1821 but several different records have her est. birth around 1822. So if another Susan could be found with a birth closer to 1822 that would be great.
What records, if any, would be available for the years between 1843 and 1849, which is the time of the marriage and when they sailed to NZ leaving from Tilbury Fort, River Thames. Patrick Crew came to NZ as a Royal NZ Fencible.
The baptism for Eliza was Jan 1849 and the family sailed 17 May 1849 - What mode of transport would they have taken to get from Cavan to River Thames?
As I will be in Co Cavan during the first week in July I would love to know if any Fitpatrick's are still in the area that I could contact. Apologies for the late notice, but there has been so much to prepare and I overlooked this family and really appreciate any suggestions.
Kind regards,
Barbara
