[This post and Roger McDonnell's very helpful reply were accidentally deleted yesterday. Thank you, Roger for your lightning-quick and spot-on reply - it does indeed seem like an excellent lead as my Fitzpatricks were Roman Catholic and Mary would almost certainly have been born before 1835]
Hello
I am trying to trace my 2nd great grandmother Mary Fitzpatrick (b abt 1829 - 1903) back to her Cavan Co origins. She emigrated to the U.S. probably in the 1840's, married Henry Foss of Germany/Prussia and they had two children Edward (1853-61) and Maria (1855-1924) in New York. They moved to San Francisco by 1860.
She had two siblings who also emigrated to the U.S.: Ann (d after 1903) who appears to have married a Mr 'N Thomas' and Hugh (abt 1841 - 1899) who married Elizabeth Dolan and had a large family of his own. Their mother (also named) Mary (1802-1879) lived with her daughter Mary's family in King's Co , NY in the 1850 U.S. census and again later in San Francisco in the 1870 census. The fact that they all came from Cavan Co comes from Hugh's obit but I have been unable to find anything more about their lives in Ireland, partly due to how common their names were.
They are part of my public tree in Ancestry entitled Dutton/Yerby/Murphy/Bennett and my user name is winowen1. I will be making an (unfortunately short) visit to Ireland in late June this year so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Winston Dutton

- Winston:
I assume your Fitzpatrick family was Roman Catholic.
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a possible lead. There were twins, Hugh and Ann, who were baptized December 3 1837 in the Knockbride RC church. Parents were Hugh Fitzpatrick and Mary Duffy. The Knockbride RC parish baptismal records start in 1835 so if this is the correct family and Mary was born pre-1835, no baptismal record would exist for her.
I should note that there are at least eleven RC parishes in Co. Cavan where records start after 1840 and there is the possibility that the Fitzpatricks were from one of those parishes.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Winston, hope the visit went well, I am looking over unanswered posts and this showed up so I am clearing it up. Checked you Ancestry page but if you have done DNA we do not match, have Cavan ancestors and see Bennett in my matches but not sure where.
Good Luck
