Hi all! I'm trying to track down a Francis Flynn and family who I believe is from St. Peter's Athlone, Roscommon. Francis is my 4th great-grandfather, and shows up in the 1820's - 1870's in New Brunswick, Canada married to a Mary Dean. I believe he was born to Francis Flynn and Brigid Cosgreve in St. Peter's around July 1793. I found a baptismal record from the 21st of that month, and a marriage certificate from 13 Feb 1819, both of which fit with the timeline well, but then I lose the line trying to go further back. Does anyone have any insight that might help?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The records for that parish only go back to 1789 which is the earliest for any parish in Co. Roscommon and almost all RC parishes in Ireland.
You could post Francis' story on our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
You may want to consider DNA testing.

Thanks for the suggestions Roger. I've just added Francis to the XO Chronicles. I've also done DNA testing with Ancestry that shows a large percentage of my heritge from the region. Do you have any insight into how I could best put it to use in helping with this?

I would try to contact your closest matches to see if you can make a connection. I would also load your raw DNA data to Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com Gedmatch is a volunteer run site where you load your DNA data and see if you match someone who tested with another company and also loaded their data to Gedmatch.
