Thank you for your help in searching for my Irish family. I have been to your beautiful country once and LOVED it and the people. I would hope to have more information on my family when I return again.

I believe that Timothy Fogarty (born in Ireland about 1802) and his wife Bridget Purcell ( born in Ireland about 1807-1812) are the ancestors I am searching for. I have confirmation that Bridget sailed on a packet ship, The Europe, from Liverpool to New York arriving March 17th, 1842. Timothy and son James (b-1840 in Ireland) were not listed on the ship's manifest. Bridget traveled with Margeret Fogarty age 11, Ellen Fogarty age 5, Judith Fogarty age 5.

A geneologist friend thinks she found a Timothy Fogarty in Engand as a carpenter in 1841. We were unable to find Timothy or baby James on any ship's manifests coming to USA.

James Fogarty, (born 1840 Ireland) grew up in USA, and married Mary Price (born Ireland 29June1843) A christening record was found for Mary Price in Killarney.

I am primarily interested in the Fogarty Family, but any info would be greatly appreciated. I did see Fogarty Castle in County Tipperary while I was there, what a thrill !

I also found a small newspaper clipping in our family bible with no dates, no location, that mentions the death of  Rev. P Fogarty from Mooncoin. I assume it was from a US paper. The bible dates from 1850-1954.

Thank you so much for your help. I am looking forward to my next visit to Ireland. It will be even more special to really know where my family was from.  Warmest regards, Patricia Fogarty Schaefer

  • The R.C. parish of Mooncoin is in the Diocese of Ossory and a seminary for the education of priests in the diocese was St Kieran's Kilkenny - The seminary  is now closed but there must be archives and records

Suggest you contact St Kierans'  college which was the attached school to the seminary and is still open - they may be able to advise how to get info on Fr P Fogarty.

The website has a contact form
