Hello everyone - I wonder if anyone could help me find a birth record for Frances Kelly. I have her birth as 1803 or 1805 in Dublin. The next time I find her is married in Manchester to Edward Finigan b.1798 in County Meath. They had a family living in Manchester in mid 1800s. Any information about them would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any additional details on your Frances - e.g. father's name, names and dates for any siblings, or an approximate location in Dublin ?
There are a couple of issues that are going to make this search difficult, the common surname the very early date (before the start of many parish records) and having so few details will mean it may not be possible to conclusively prove or rule out any possible baptism records found..
'Dublin' can refer to the City, suburbs or county, so covers quite a few parishes. Records for most of the Catholic & Church of Ireland parishes in Dublin city and a couple of Catholic parishes in South Co. Dublin are available (free) on the IrishGenealogy website, images of the Catholic Parish records for all of Ireland, including Co. Dublin are available on the National Library website, and searchable transcripts are on FindMyPast & Ancestry, the pay-website RootsIreland also has transcripts for some County Dublin Catholic & Church of Ireland parishes. I had a scan though the early 1800s baptisms on IrishGenealogy and there are a few Francis (male), and two possible as Franciscusa 1805 and Fransisca 1807 and a Frances baptised in 1809.

Sorry I don't know any more information about Frances Kelly only her husband in England who was Edward Patrick Finigan and that on searches her names comes up as Francesca. But can I change to another Kelly? This one is my great-grandmother Sarah. I know all her history from when she got married in Manchester on 06 Jun 1873 in the Cathedral to William Mather. I have their marriage certificate that shows her father as Michael Kelly, Bricklayer and she was born in Queens Co in 1852 or 1854. Her marriage shows her living at the same address as William, 50 Baxter Street, Hulme although I'm told it may have been a holding address. I can't find her on the 1871 Census so she must have arrived in England between then and 1873 when she married.
Any help appreciated.

English civil marriage certs dont include place of birth - presumably Queen's county comes from a census or Church record ?
I'm not familiar with the churches in Manchester - was that a Catholic marriage ?.. if so it might be worth checking for a church record of the marriage as this could include the name of Sarah's mother, which would help the search for Sarah and also any possible siblings.A search of Catholic records for 1853 plus or minus 5 years shows two Sarah Kelly's baptised in Co. Laois (Queen's Co.) with father's name Michael, the first on the 9th January 1848 in Cappinrush/Ballyfin parish with parents Michael Kelly & Sally White, and the second on the 5th March 1857 in Raheen/Ballinagar parish to Michael Kelly and Essy White.
Which census returns have you found your Sarah on - any sign of possible siblings or her father with her ?

Sorry shanew147, I've only just seen your reply dated November 2018! To answer your questions if I'm not too late - as I said before they were married in Manchester Cathedral. In those days although they were RCatholics many Catholics were married in the Cathedral -
"Under the requirements of Lord Hardwicke's Act only those marriages (other than those of Quakers and Jews) celebrated in the established church were valid. The Collegiate Church of Manchester was the parish church for the parish of Manchester. Not only was the parish geographically quite large, there was an explosion in the population during the 18th and early 19th centuries. As a result there were insufficient churches.
In short, prior to 1847 a majority, but not all of the marriages in the parish of Manchester took place in the Collegiate Church. The reason for this was not Lord Hardwicke's Act alone, it was also the financial self-interest of the warden and fellows of the Collegiate Church."
Queens County was mentioned as birth place on marriage certificate.
I have searched for some years but the only records I can find for Sarah are after she married in Manchester with nothing naming any siblings or parents. I had come across the record for Michael Kelly and Essie White but I had found them on a 1901 Census and they had a son John. I haven't seen the Michael and Sally White but I would think she is the same person as Essie.
I have emailed quite a few people on Ancestry with Sarah Kelly in their Trees around the same time but so far I haven't had any luck. Thank you for your help.
Marie
