I am looking for any information/confirmation on my ancestor Francis Jordan, who came from County Mayo. I believe he came from Rathduff, however the information could have been copied incorrectly. Francis was born around 1800 and I know of 2 children, Edward Jordan circa 1836 and Mary Jordan circa 1840. There may have been another child Michael Jordan, circa 1835. The family appear to have left Ireland and arrived in Haslingden Lancashire, some time between 1851 and 1855 as there is no record of them on the 1851 Census, but there are marriage certificates for children of Francis in 1855 and 1856 respectively.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Maureen (Kelly)

Maureen:
Baptismal records for Balla RC parish start in late May 1837 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1044 and these records are available on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did a search for children of Francis Jordan but did not find any records in Balla. I did find records up in Backs/Knockmore RC parish further north from Balla where the father was Francis Jordan and the mother was Mary Moyles (1 record) and Bridget Commons (2 records). The names were Barbara (1837) Thomas (1839) and Patt (1841). I discounted these records because the parish was wrong and the names were different than you listed. Ironically, the placename for the 1837 record was Rathduff.
Maybe all the children were born and baptized before May 1837?
Do you know the name of the wife of Francis Jordan?

Hi Maureen, I am from Rathduff in Mayo. My great grandmother was mary Armstrong nee jordan. Mary was born around 1870. Her parents were Thomas Jordan and Winifred Moyles. I found their marriage cert from 1866 where i can see his father was Francis Jordan. I know mary armstrong had siblings thomas jnr and michael . . I don't know what became of them. Thomas and Winifred jordan died around 1905 after which jordan family changed to armstrong.

Good afternoon Michaela and thank you so much for your response. Can you tell me from the marriage certificate - how old was Thomas when he married please? Also, does it say whether Francis (father) was alive or deceased, as he is listed as deceased on a marriage certificate for his daughter in 1856. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we do have a link after searching for over 15 years now. Kind regards Maureen
