Martin Galvin is buried in Kilmacduane (headstone reads "erected by Stephen Galvin to the memory of his father Michael Galvin who died Dec 10th 1847 aged 96 years"

Michael Galvin (probably Martin's son) and his wife Mary (nee O"Donnell) died in Caherfeenick in 1879 and and 1872 respectively.

Michael Galvin's son Martin Galvin and his wife Ellen (nee Connellan) died in Caherfeenick in 1912 and 1921 respectivley.

Stephen Galvin (son of Martin Galvin and Ellen Connellan) and his wife Ann (nee Cunningham) died in 1940 and 1944 respectivley.

Mary Galvin (daughter of Stephen Galvin and Ann Cunningham) died in 1909 in Caherfeenick.

Is there anyone who lives in that area who could possibly take photos of the graves.

I have been compiling details of the Galvin family who lived in Caherfeenick and was hoping some detail on headstones my help to confirm the relationship of various family members.

  • Hi,

What cemeteries do you require the photos from and the number of headstones that you are aware of.

  • Kilmcaduane Graveyard, Cooraclare lists a transcription of the grave of Martin Galvin 1847  (erected by his son Stephen) This is from transcriptions of graves of Cooraclare and Cree areas -  that is all I have to work from.

I presume that his son Michael Galvin and wife Mary (nee O'Donnell) died 1879 and 1872 respectively are buried there too

also Martin Galvin and wife Ellen (nee Connellan) died 1912 and 1921 respectively

also Stephen Galvin and wife Ann (nee Cunningham) died 1940 and 1944 respectively

also Michael Boland and wife Ellen (nee Galvin) died 1903 and 1919 respectively

In fact all the Galvins buried in these areas wil be related

Any help really appreciated. (I live in central Victoria in Australia)

  • Hi,

Today being dry, bright and sunny I took the 20 minute drive to Kilmacduane graveyard.

The graveyard consistes of an old church ruin which is covered in ivy, some family vaults, with most of the gravestones being on the flat. The number of upright memorials are not that many. The writing on many of the stones on the flat has eroded and some are broken.

    Very slipperary if wet!

After some searching I found the memorial stone for Martin Galvin. It is on the flat and has a lot of grey algae on it. I photographed it and aslo the surrounding area. No other "Galvin" name found.

Do you want to have the photograps put on web?
