Gerald Alley arrived in Ontario, Canada in 1825.  He was later recorded as "of Meath County" but in 1818 as born about 1797 in Dublin.  I am not related but would like to find his family history in Ireland for a biography of early settlers.  He died here in 1873.

  • Hi Fred,

Subscription site - www.findmypast.ie - has a record of the death of a George Alley on December 16th 1880. He is eldest surviving son of the Rev. G. Alley, Wardstown, Athboy, Co. Meath. Hi age is given as 83 years.

There may be a connection here!

    Regards,

  • Thank you for your reply.  I did see a similar record for a George Alley at familysearch.org.  This afternoon, I discovered that Gerald Alley of Ontario, Canada died in 1873 in Ontario and was buried there.  In 1875, his eldest sister Isabella (no surname) inherited his farm land in Ontario and that in 1876, George Alley of Meath, Ireland held title to that land.  Possibly Gerald's heir in County Meath was George Alley who died in there in 1880.  Hopefully, that connection can be confirmed in Ireland.  Gerald did not appear to have a family in Ontario.

I have researched a number of Irish families who immigrated in Ontario in the early 1800s and can access a number of documents here.  Please let me know if I can help you with your family research.

    Wishing you well,
