I am looking for the parents of Jeremiah Shea and Mary Kennedy.. We think Jeremiah Shea was born in Tipperary in 1800. He had 2 brothers Dennis and James and a brother in-law Michael Ryan. They resided at Currabaha and were known to Mr. Rich Burke. Jeremiah Shea married Mary Kennedy from Ireland ( born in 1804, no known birth place). We believe they married in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We know they were in Canada in 1828 and had their first son, Michael John Shea, born in Ottawa on September 13, 1829. They had 7 more children and lived at Ile-du-Grand-Calumet, Pontiac, Quebec, Canada. Jeremiah Shea died in 1860 and Mary Kennedy died in 1901 .We found some information on Ancestry.ca and more information in a book titled 'The McCabe List' by Bruce Elliott. We could not find the marriage record for Jeremiah and Mary. I would greatly appreciate any input you could give me. Elizabeth Kovacs from Ottawa Canada.

Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you very much for your message.
Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information given Jeremiah?s early date of birth as the reality of finding documents dating this early is that they simply may not exist. Catholic records for the area for example only begin in 1814:
Church of Ireland records generally tend to have an earlier start date so if the family were Protestant you may have a better chance of finding Jeremiah?s birth record. Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
It may be an idea to contact the North Tipperary Genealogy Centre for some assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: tipperarynorthgenealogy@eircom.net
Some other websites that you may find useful in the meantime are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tipperary/index.html
Ireland Gen Projects: http://www.igp-web.com/tipperary/index.htm
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

We too have reached the same position as you. Today I found entries in the the Title Alotment records for Denis and James Shea. Love the spelling variation "Curraghbaha" have also come across "Sipperary" ..anyway this gives more options to search for. I have our Shea tree public on Ancestry.ca Next step may have to be a trip to "the old Country".
Good luck on your search.
