reposting this as my reply and the original post seem to have disappeared, in case it's of use to the original poster or someone else..

The query relates to a Denis Grady who married an Ellen Burke in Ireland, unknown date and parish, had at least two children here - Patrick c1846, and John c1848, the family emigrated to the USA sometime before 1850. (The original query mentioned a possible cross-match of the names in Co. Kilkenny)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Probable baptisms for these Grady children - both in 'Glanworth and Ballindangan' Catholic Parish, Co Cork.

Patrick Grady bapt. 11th April 1845, residence Ballindangan, parents Denis Grady & Ellen Burke  (see near the top of the left page)

John Grady bapt. 15th December 1846, parents Denis Grady & Ellen Burke  (see left page)

It's quite common for ages to be inaccurate in later records - often slightly under-estimated.

The parish of Glanworth and Ballindangan is in Cloyne Diocese and is located in North East Co. Cork, to the south-west of the town of Mitchelstown.  Baptism and marriage records for the parish go back to 1836. The Tithe Applotment payments did not cover all property, just certain types of eligible agricultural land, so there are many people not included.

Griffith Primary Valuation for the Ballindangan area were published in July 1851, so not long after your Grady/Burke family left Ireland - the valuation shows several Burke properties in the townland along with at least one O'Grady -  these could be related in some way to your Denis and Ellen.

    Thank you!

    Go raibh maith agat!,

My daughter and family just came from Ireland where they visited the Irish Family History Centre, and she provided me with the Ireland XO website. You have closed a loop for me.

Thank you very much indeed for the fast response.

PS. I had deleted the previous post. There were two posts shown, so I was trying to delete only one of them. I'm glad I re-posted.
