I believe this 1880 DC record is of my 2x GGF Laurence McGovern. He died in the Granard Workhouse. I have searched the records but have been unable to find him there. I have read the Workhouse DC records typically contain valuable information, and so would really love to find it if it's there. Would appreciate any help in locating his Granard Workhouse DC record. Thanks so much!!

  • Debbie,

There is information about Granard workhouse here:

    https://www.workhouses.org.uk/Granard/

You could contact Longford County Library to see what they’ve got.  The minute books are records of the weekly Board of Guardians meetings (routine business issues relating to finance, ordering food and other resources etc), and rarely contain details of individual inmates, unless something unusual happened. Ideally you are looking for the admission records. Some workhouses also kept their own death records but not all did. (The records are very unlikely to be on-line).

  • Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for your reply. I do have that record. (I uploaded with my post, but I guess it didn't go through, sorry) That is the record I am working off of in trying to obtain the Workhouse record. Thanks!
