I have come to a dead end. Stories from my mum are very vague. I have been told Winifred Thorne came over from Ireland in the early 1930's at the age of 17 with her sisters. She was born in 1914 this is information from her death certificate. She came over to Chatham, kent. She married one Sydney Astor Joiner on the 1st of October 1938 aged 24 it states that her father Jack Thorne could be John was already deceased at the time of the marriage,so there is no information as to what he did for a living on their marriage certificate. Sadly Winifred died in 1944 when my mum was only 5 when she died and the stories she retells are those that have been told to her. I have searched on Ancestory cites to no avail.
The other storie's are she came from Romany stock who came over to Ireland from Europe at some point in history and married into the Irish Gypsy families. Any information would be most greatful. One of her sisters was called Maud and maybe another was Eilleen.

I looked at the Irish civil indexes of births from 1900 ? 1925 and there?s no birth of anyone named Winfred Mary Thorne in Ireland in that period at all. No Thorne births of any name at all in 1914. Nearest were Lillian Florence, Dorothy Nellie & Phyllis Eileen all in 1912, plus Elizabeth Hawe Thorn in 1916. Can?t see a birth for any Maud Thorne around 1914. There was a Maud Thorn marriage in Londonderry in 1917. I think she was born in 1888.
Phyllis Eileen Thorn was born in Larne, Co. Antrim, April ? Jun 1912.
I searched for Jack/John Thorne deaths 1914 ? 1935 and there are none listed. (Though if he happened to die in Northern Ireland from 1922 onwards, those are not on-line).
Thorne is not a very common name in Ireland. There were only 62 in the 1911 census:
