Hello everyone, my fiirst post here.  I have been trying to pin down my origins for 20 years now but can never get any further, I'm told because of missing  or destroyed files.

I recently had someone suggest to me that I was looking in the wrong place and made a suggestion.  I'd always been stating her place of birth as Queens County which is what is on her marriage certificate.  The suggestion was that Queens also covered the bit near the top that is Kildare and I did find a possible connection in Athy but still not been able to confirm any of that.  Her dob was approx 1852 and her father's name on the cert is Michael Kelly, bricklayer.

I have most information on her from when she married in Manchester, England but her family and place of birth eludes me.  Any suggestions I'd be grateful for, so long as its not 'get lost'!

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland for all of Ireland for a Sarah Kelly with father Michael. No baptismal records turned up around 1850 in Co. Kildare or Co. Laois. There are 1848 and 1849 records in Co. Offaly and 1847 and 1851 records in Co. Limerick plus an 1849 Co. Down record. I assume you tried to find her mother's name with no success?

  • Yes, I have tried to find mother's name but to no avail.  The only clue is Michael, her father, shown as bricklayer on marriage cert.
