I am looking for connection to one of my paternal great grandmothers HANNAH or ANNA RYAN (abt. 1847) from Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.   I have located a PATRICK RYAN (abt. 1827) in Laurence Town, Clonfert, Co. Galway.  In tracing Irish naming tradition from her children with JOHN MYLOTT (abt. 1850) in Lancashire, England, I am thinking there is a chance that PATRICK might be her father.   Hannah and John eventually came to Massachusetts, USA.

According to census John MYLOTT (abt. 1850) also originated in Ireland before emigrating to England.  It might be possible that he came from Galway as well.

I am traveling to Ireland from Mass. in September.  Will likely pass through Ballinasloe on my self-drive research trip.  It would be good to have a bit more info. before I go.

As FYI to msg. board members I thought some Galway folks might also be interested in knowing that I successfully traced my maternal HYNES family back to Carheens, Belclare, Co. Galway on my 2010 return "home".

Slan!

  • Tom,  I descend from Hannah Ryan and John Mylott.  I do not have details on Hannah's parents, but believe them to be Patrick and Julia Ryan nee Dwyer all born in Ireland.  How do you trace back to Hannah and the Mylott's?

All the best / Jack Mylott
