The 1849 marriage record in South Boston, MA for Timothy Hannon, my great-great grandfather, clearly names his parents as Daniel and Mary. The only couple with these names that fit the time frame and Cork origins are Daniel Hannon and Mary McDonnell (possibly Donnel) of Doneraile. However, I cannot find any record of them having a son named Timothy.  The only Timothy Hannon/Hannan I can find was born to William Hannan and Catherine Heffernan of Barrack-Buttevant in July 1820. This birthplace is very, very near to Doneraile. I've looked in vain for death records for William and/or Catherine wondering if one or the other died and Timothy might have been raised by nearby relatives, Daniel and Mary. I'm stumped! Anyone have ideas about where to go from here.

  • Thanks, Col. This Danial and Mary Hannon would certainly be good prospects. In addition to Thomas, do you know whether they had other children? Might they have also gas a son named Timothy? The 1818 timeframe of Thomas' birth certainly fits our presumed birth of Timothy in 1821. Also, the location strengthens our case -- Timothy's daughter Ellen (DOB 1850 in South Boston) married William Casey from Ballyduff, County Waterford which is a very short distance down the Blackwater River from Killavullen.
