I'm looking for the family of John and Ann Allyson Harris from Ballybrittan, who were my great-great-grandparents.  They emigrated to America where they had several children, living in Livingston County, Michigan.  They died in the 1840s and are buried in Livingston County.  Would like to know if there are any records of their parents' names or siblings they may have had.

  • Hi thanks for your message and interest in Ireland Reaching Out.

There are a number of places where you can search for such records.

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp  or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

These valuations are important geneology sources as there are no complete set of census records prior to 1901.

Also the Irishtimes website is a very good source for browsing records, you may have to pay a fee to look at some of these. You can look at what church records are available here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/offalyrc.htm

However, you do need to have the Parish name for this.

Finally the National Archives of Ireland may be of help. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
