My great grand uncle Jeremiah Dwyers gravestone has several family members buried beside him including a Nora(cis)Odwyer inscribed.  Can anyone please let me know what (CIS) stands for ? I have been searching and can't find the answer.

  • https://historicgraves.com/old-pallas/li-opls-336/grave The name 'Cis' is often a pet name used in families, for instance an elderly family member I know often alluded to her Aunt Cis, which of course was not her real name but none of us knew her as anything but Aunt Cis, this has nothing what so ever to do with cis as in gender relationships of more recent times.

  • Thanks Eileen. That will save me hours more of fruitless searching the internet. I don't think Nora was a sister due to her age and I don't suppose his daughter wouldn't be know as cis ? so my best guess would be a niece.
