I have become an amateur genealogist over recent years and want to try and find out when my Branch of the Tunney clan left Ireland to come to the UK. I have a newspaper article database that is very helpful, but it doesn't tell too much. My branch of the family settled in North East UK and I have managed to trace them back on my Father's side to Mayo in 1826 and someone (James) who married in Durham around 1853. His Father was Hugh but I have no further details - can anyone help?

What does the 1826 date signify? James's birth?
Can you give approx birth years for James and his father, Hugh?
Can you give the names of spouses, of children?
Occupations? religion?
Death dates?
Anything you might know. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. We were having systems issues with our message board.
Finding baptismal records back to 1826 in Co. Mayo is difficult. I did do a search for James Tunney with father Hugh but did not get a record back.
From looking at the Griffiths Valuation data from 1855, most Tunney tenant farmers were from East Mayo.
Have you taken a general DNA test?
