Hello,
Looking to make connections in the Cashel area for Hennessy circa 1800-1900.
My GGG-grandfather was Thomas Hennessy (b. abt 1800), a butcher circa1866, from Cashel. He was possibly living at The Green, Cashel & we believe his wife to be Catherine Moloney. (Could be Mary Burke)
His son Michael b. between1831-34 served in the British army, 8th Regiment 1852-73. He married Anne Nolan (b. Wicklow) while the 8th was stationed in Dublin in 1866. They both travelled to Malta & India with the 8th Regiment, where they started their family and settled in Dublin circa 1876. (Not sure if he ever returned to Tipp)
Michael's older brother Edmond b.1830 also served in the 8th Reg. He did return to Cashel and married Bridget Prout, but died shortly after without issue.
The story goes that Michael had a number of brothers in the British army & was the only son to return, but it's possible there were sisters living in the area that married c1850-1870.
There is a Michael Hennessy living at the Green 1901 & 1911, but this is not a direct ancestor, may be a distant relative however. This Michael was the son of another Michael Hennessy, (who was possibly the son of another Thomas!)
There is a Thomas Hennessy living at the Green, in the Cashel rates book 1849. Two entries for Thomas and unsure if it's the same person or 2 different Thomas!
That's about all the clues I've been able to muster up so far! If anyone else has been working on Hennessy connections in Cahel, I would love to hear from you.
Ann
