Hello All,
I'm trying to track down my Irish routes. My Kelly ancestor who migrated to Australia was a fellow named Henry Kelly (b~1828) and was married to an Elizabeth Carr (b~1834). Henry's parents as stated on his death certificate were an Edward Kelly and Ellen, while Elizabeth Carr's parents were a John Carr and Sarah Kane.
They had two children in Ireland (William b ~1854) and Margaret (b~1855). Their passenger records to Australia in 1856 stated their origin as Armagh, but I'm uncertian if this was a temporary residence or their ancestral hometown. They were Catholics, their children born in Australia had the names Ellen, Elizabeth, Susanna, Sarah Jane, Mary Ann, James, Henry & Thomas Henry which may be clues to their family tree.
Any information on their true Irish hometown would be terrific.
Cheers,
Lance Kelly

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located an 1851 marriage record in the Shankill RC parish in Co. Armagh. See transcription below. No townland is shown and civil registration of RC marriages did not begin until 1864. I did not find the baptismal records for William or Margaret and all of the parishes surrounding Shankill have records back earlier than 1850. I searched both in Armagh and Down. I did locate an 1829 baptismal record in Shankill for a Henry Kelly which may or may not be for your ancestors. See below. No luck with a record for Elizabeth.
Henry and his family would have left Ireland befoe the Griffiths Valuation was taken in Armagh or Down.

Thanks Roger, this fills in some details of their history, especially Henry's mothers possible surname.
