Looking for any information on the origins or wider family of my Hewitt / Barriskill ancestors.
Henry Hewitt (AKA Howit) was born in Ireland abt 1822, and most likely came to Scotland during the Great Famine. He is recorded in Holytown, Bothwell, Lanarkshire in 1858, Kilmarnock in 1861, Govan in 1871, and in Motherwell Poor House, where he died in 1878. He was a coal miner.
His wife Elisabeth Barriskill was born cir 1833 in Ireland, to Henry Barriskill and Helen McCoul (who also emigrated to Scotland, dying in Glasgow in 1867). Elisabeth died in Govan in 1871.
Their known children were: Ellen Hewitt (born cir 1851 Glasgow), William Hewitt (born 1858 Holytown, Bothwell), Henry Hewitt (born 1861 Kilmarnock), Caroline Hewitt (born 1863 Kilmarnock) and Jane Hewitt (born 1870 Govan). Further information can be found on my website: www.hutchisonfamily.me.uk
Any information appreciated.
Best wishes,
Craig Hutchison

Hi Craig,
Thank you for your message.
I have also responded to your query regarding the McMillan and Deacon family. Please see that message for some suggestions and web links.

Hi Craig,
You and I have been in contact in the past. I, too, am descended from Barriskill/Barriskell.... Elizabeth Hewitt's brother Robert. Still working away on the tree, with nothing new to report yet, but did notice a little boo-boo on your post. Elizabeth's parents were Helen McCoul and WILLIAM Barriskell, not Henry Barriskell. It's correct on your website and other places I've seen your posts, just not here.
