Hello! I am looking for information on the Horty family name from the Galway area. I have records and information on Michael Horty (B.1823 Galway) (married to Bridget Ford, B.1834 Galway, in 1858 in Lousiville Ky). Michael immigrated to the US in 1847 and then eventually settled in Iowa.
I'm looking for information on his father Patrick Horty (B.~1801 Gort - maybe baptized in Moycullen 12/03/1801) or relatives. I have a tithe applotment record that shows Patrick rented 21 acres from the Vicar of Tuam perish, Knockavanny in 1831. Griffith’s Valuation, 1847-1864 shows he may have lived in Ardrahan, Galway, Ireland in 1857. He also may have had a daughter named Catherine Donaghue (B. 1831 Galway) but the only evidence I've found of this is an 1871 England census. I have not found any information on Patrick's wife.
I'm also looking for information on the Horty family name. I've seen theories that Horty, Hortey, Harty, Hardy, Hart, etc. are all from the same family name O’Heraghty or Ó hOireachtaigh. Hopeful that someone could shed some light on the family history pre-1800.

Hi Xlamou
Welcome to IrelandXO
Tuam has records from 1790, a number of records for Hogarty. There are no birth records with name Michael. John Hogarty born 1816 to Michael Hogarty & Eleanor Cavanagh. John Hogarty born 1830 to Michael Hogarty & Ellen Burns.

Hi Xlamou,
I found an applotment record for a Pat Hoarty in Ardrahan in 1826. I attach a screenshot of the search result and the applotment page. There are two entries for Patt Hoarty 98 and 120. In the document, the name is spelt Horty.
Have you any more information on Michael Hoarty who married Bridget Forde in 1858 in Kentucky? Did the marriage cert have any extra information?
Can you give any more details on Catherine Donoghue?
Regards
Anne

Thanks for the assistance.
I've attached the document I have on the marriage. There aren't many details listed. Michael and Bridget had 6 kids - Patrick, James, Mary, Michael, John, and William. They settled in Iowa somewhere around 1860. I don't have any birth or baptism records of his time in Galway.
The only info I have linking Catherine Donahue to Patrick Horty is the 1871 England Census. He's listed as 69 years old, her father, and from Galway. I've attached this.

Hi Xlamou,
Have you any information connecting the Patrick Horty in the UK census 1871 with the Michael Horty in USA in1858?

No, I don't have anything solid that says it's the same Patrick Horty. Just based on age, name, and location it leads me to think it may be.

Hi Xlamou,
Where did your information regarding Michael Horty's birth in 1823 come from? It is usually difficult to get anything on births before 1850 in Irelan.
The Griffiths record shows a Daniel Horty renting from a representative of Vicisimus Knox. The Knox family is landed gentry and Vicisimus Knox was a famous member of that family
Here is a link to the Knox family holdings in Kiltartan which includes, Beagh, Ardmullivan and Cloughnakeava which I think is called Cloonnahaha in this database. Sometimes there was an approximate phonic spelling of Irish names. I would need to check on this.

There are a few other Hoartys in Griffiths Galway. I attach some screenshots of what I found so far.
The witnesses at the wedding of Bridget Forde and Michael Horty have names that are common in and around Gort/Beagh Welsh and Hawkins.
