    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at Roots Ireland and found a transcription of William's baptismal record in the RC parish of Castlecomer. There were also five other records for siblings:Elizabeth 1832 Patrick 1836 and Marian 1838 Catherine 1840 John 1843. I copied the 1838 record for Marian below and the family was living on Chapel St. in Castlecomer.

The parents were married in 1831. See below.

So the RC parish and civil parish would both be Castlecomer.

  • Hi Roger!

I am planning my trip...arriving in 6 days...and could use a little clarification if you can help. .   For example, using the information you provided above for my Donlevy relatives:

if I wanted to visit the home where my grandparents lived (1) how would I find out the house number (2)  What address would I put into google maps for directions to it?  would it be ___ Chapel Street, Castlecomer, Kilkenny Ireland?.  When I put in that address now at google maps, it changes to Chapel St., Ballinakill, Laois, Ireland.... so I am confused...

    (3) Are Castlecomer and Ballinakill different parishes?   (4) Are parishes comparable to Cities in USA and Counties comparable to US States?

    (5) Is  it possible to determine what specific Church in the Roman Catholic Parish of Castlecomer they were baptized or married in?  (6)  And are RC parishes always the same as civil parishes?

And finally (7)  what does Castlemore Roscommon signify that comes after your name in post?

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    SIncerely,

    Maureen

Here is a some technical background on the the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Castlecomer.  http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=KK&…

Link to parish https://ossory.ie/parishes-and-people/diocesan-database/parish-details/…;  No other churches in Castlecomer

    Background on Castlecomer town  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlecomer

    link to library branch http://www.kilkennylibrary.ie/eng/Libraries_Locations/Castlecomer_Libra…

Castlecomer town has around 2300 people. There would be additional people in the surrounding townlands which comprise the civil parish.

Coopers Lane and Chapel Lane may have been renamed at some point. Maybe the library branch could help. I did check the 1901 census for Castlecomer town and don't see either Coopers Lane or Chapel St.

Castlecomer and Ballinakill have no connection.

RC parishes and civil parishes usually have different borders.

I am the parish liaison for Castlecomer Co. Roscommon so my user name is Castlemore Roscommon. (My grandmother was from that parish). However, I answer messages from all over Ireland.

Let me know what additional questions you have.
