I know that my great grandparents were John and Katherin McMullan.  Her maiden name was Ellis.  They were married in Christ Church, Belfast, Ireland on October 4, 1885.  Their first child was John Ellis McMullan, born February 16, 1887 in Belfast.  Their second child was Sarah Lavary McMullan, born June 19, 1888 in Belfast, Ireland.  I believe that  they emigrated to the US in 1888 or 1889.  Can you tell me any more about them?  I have no idea what parish they were in.

  • Hi there,

So you know if they were Roman Catholic or Protestant?  It halves the search.

  • They were definitely Protestant.  My grandfather insisted that I wear orange on St. Patrick's Day. I never understood why when I was a child but a few years ago the reason dawned on me.  John and Katherin mentioned in my original post were the parents of my grandfather.

  • Hi there,

Go to rootsireland.ie and imput john and sarah and their dated for county Antrim and Down.  Yu should find them listed, but you will need to go down to the parish/district bar and click on the drop down menu.  You will have to do a search of each parish one by one.  Only put in the father's name when refining your search.

    Hope you find them,

    Anne
