I have a bit on confusion about my grandfather's nephews. Austin and Nora McLoughlin lived in Mountbellew(Cloonshivna) I know that their sons were Patrick, Martin, Andrew, James, and Thomas. I have all of their birth registrations. I'm wondering if James  (born 25/Apr/1906)went by the name John. I have found a John McLoughlin that immigrated to the US and the ship manifest says that his father was Austin McLoughlin from Cloonshivna and that he was going to his brother's Andrew. I can't find a birth registration for John to help clear up this confusion. On John's US naturalzation papers it says he was born 6/Feb/1908. With the repeat of the same names being so common it does complicate things. I don't want to attach anything to my tree without knowing for sure that it is correct.

I hope that you can clear up this confusion for me.

    No, James did not go by the name John. There is a death of James McLoughlin, Cloonshivne in February 1907 aged 0. The family are also in the 1911 census with John aged 3. This also indicates that Austins father was Martin and his mother is not shown so had probably died. There doesn't seem to be a record for the birth of John on Irish Genealogy, but that is not unusual. He is there in the census and Parish records may also show. The local volunteer may be able to help with that. But it seems that James and John were two children.

    Thank you so much for your research. This has cleared up my confusion. I know that Austin's mother(Margaret) died in 1905 hence she didn't show up in the 1911 census. I looks like all of Austin's boys except Martin immigrated. Martin shows up on both his mother and father's death registration.

    Your orginization does a wonderful job and I appreciate all the help that this group has given me.
