I wanted to confirm the lineage of John Barry b1912 married to Sarah McKeogh. Was he the son of John Barry c1792 (Co. Claire) and Honora. John and Sarah had 2 sons John and Joseph. There is a record of a Joseph Barry married to Susan Moylen and then son Colman Barry born in Nenagh in 1947. Does anyone remember this family and/or know the history of the family.

Regards,

  • Deborah,

John Barry's 1912 birth record would be available for free at irishgenealogy.ie.  It will include his parents' names.

It does not seem possible that his father was born in 1792.

    I hope this is helpful.

  • The John Barry birth in 1912 see attached file.
I think you need to start with you and work backwards.
The marriage for Joseph and Susan was in 1941 file attached file.
Oh! was Colman a twin? either that or two children registered at the same time, which does happen.

  • Hi Patricia and Margo,

Thank you for your response. There is an Irish Census record (1911)  listing John Barry and Sarah with her mother Mary McKeogh. His birth is estimated as 1853. This would make it possible that he is John Barry son of John Barry c1792 and Honora. There is a baptism record for John Barry (2 Aug 1850) Youghalarra Parish, father John Barry and mother Honora. John Barry c1850 was my great-grand uncle. An old family tree has John Barry c1850 married to a Mary Darcy. But recently I was matched strongly with DNA on Ancestry with a woman who is descended from a Joseph Barry. I was thinking Mary Darcy was a mistake. The old family tree listed John Barry c 1850 as having 2 sons, Joseph and John.

John Barry in the 1911 Irish Census has a son John. I did find birth records for the sons John and Joseph. Then the marriage record for a Joseph Barry and Susan Mary Moylan. It lists his father as John.

Then there is the record of Joseph Barry who married Susan Mary Moylan. They did have sons Colman and Brendan (twins according to the woman I am matched with on Ancestry). She is related to Colman Barry.

So I thought maybe someone in Nenagh would remember Colman Barry b 1947 or his parents Joseph Barry and Susan Mary Moylan. I have asked a couple of cousins in Ireland about it too.

    John Barry's c1850 and Sarah McKeogh's sons:

John Barry b 10 Jan 1906 Lisheen, mother Sarah McKeogh

Joseph Barry b19 Mar 1912 Lisheen, mother Sarah McKeogh

A Joseph Barry married Susan Mary Moylan in Offaly 1941. And his was the father of Colman and Brendan.

I was thinking there is a good chance that this Joseph Barry would be a cousin to me.
