The New York Times published an article on James Jackson - a 28 year old immigrant from Kildare, Ireland who dies in New York from Yellow Fever in 1799 and was buried in Washington Square Park - now no longer a gravesite.

Does anyone with knowledge of Kildare records have any information on this young man?  The quality of his gravestone suggests he had friends of means enough to give him a decent burial.  The NYT would no doubt be interested on any further information.

  • Hi Mike!

    Hope you are well!

Roots Ireland does not have any James Jackson baptismal records in Co.Kildare around 1771. There is a record in 1708 and then the next James Jackson is 1803, Very few Kildare RC and C of I churches have records back to 1771 or so. Athy mainly.

  • Hi Roger - many thanks for the response/research.  Good to hear from you. There is a lady - Sharon Oddie Brown of the "the Silver Bowl" who has detailed knowledge of the Jackson family in Kildare it seems - was in contact yesterday - hoping she can shed some light...Mike
