Good day. My name is Dennis Sutton from Florida, USA.
I am looking to take my first trip to Ireland around the end of August 2019. I have been doing family history for over 30 years and thought it was about time I see the places from where they came. County Clare is the home to dad's material family. These are the O'Brien, Mungovan, Cussen and Bermingham families.
Research on the O'Brien-Mungovan has been mystery. I know my great grandfather was born in Tromra West, Kilmurry Ibrickane, Clare and is parents were Thomas O'Brien and Mary Mungovan (Mungavan).
My Cussen family research has been more successful. My great grandmother, Mary Cussen (Cushing) was born 1849 in Ballyartney, Killofin, Clare. Her parents were James Cussen and Bridget Bermingham. James and Bridget had at least 8 children. All but the eldest, Patrick Cussen (1846-1927), emigrated to the US settling in Hudson Co., NJ. Patrick lived on the land the family occupied in Ballyartney until his death. The Bermingham family appears to their beginnings in this area and then spread across Co. Clare. Through DNA, I have found connections to many of these extended families. I believe the common ancestor is probably with Bridget's grandfather, who hasn't been identified.
I would very much like to visit the location of the original home and perhaps while in the area meet some of my distant cousins. I found the location using Griffith's Valuation.
Would appreciate help in finding possible relatives and, if there is any reminds of the original home, to get permission to visit it. Also, any suggests anyone can offer as to travel. I also plan to drive to Co. Donegal with a similiar goal in mind.
Thank you.
Dennis

Hi Dennis:
I would recommend that you visit the Local Studies Centre in Ennis while you are here in Ireland. The librarians will be able to assist you with your research. Their website is: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
If you have any questions, please let me know.
All the best,
Jane
