I am interested to know if the information is Free to use or is it or parts of it Copywrite. For example, when writing my Family's Story I feel it would be useful to add information of the times each relative lived.

To me, this is important once we go back beyond 1922 because after that the information is more readilly available and certainly not as confusing and controversial depending where you are standing.

It appears to me, when discussing the past to be more sociably acceptable to quote your sources of History so hopefully eliminatimg your perceived bious on the History of Ireland.

The Time Line in Ireland XO fits in perfectly with my attempt to write my Family History. So by selecting those items from it, plus what our family research and hand downs from family members past I believe I can cobble together and interesting dialogue of our Family Story.

I have been reading many books on Irish History recently but find the information totally overwhelming and trying to make a Precis of it that would be interesting enough for an uninterested person just trying to get a general idea of our Roots nearly impossible.

  • Hi Peter,

I am delighted that you see the value in the Timeline to add context to your family story.

With regard to copyright, we ask that any content that is added here is done so in good faith that it is not prevented from being reproduced by copyright.  For example, a published copywritten text is usually protected for the life of the author plus 70 years. This is why there is no copyright on Lewis's Topographical Dictionary which we publish as timeline entries, and as a consequence you too could use. We do not establish copyright over items that we publish ourselves. Generally, once they are on the internet they are widely available for people to use. We ask that anyone reproducing an article that they have seen be kind enough to acknowledge the original source as being IrelandXO.

I hope that this answers your question.

  • Thank you Laura.

Your reply was what I was thinking but naturally I wanted to confirm that the approach I want to take is ( Not beyond the Pale).
