Tracing my Irish family tree has come to a stop with James Barry and his wife Hannah. They are shown as parents of Robert Barry, baptised 1818 at Passage West, Co Cork. Hannah has a really unusual maiden name - Piqs - as written in the register, but that may be the nearest spelling to a more obvious name. Does anyone have a trace of either the Barry or the Piqs family line earlier than 1818?

Surnames of Ireland by Dr. Edward MacLysaght - PIPHOE, PHYPOE - Of frequent occurances in mediaeval Irish records, but now very rare.
