I am looking for any information on my 2nd Great Grandfather, James Gallagher born c.1844 in Skreen who married Ellen Conlon born 1843 in Dromore West. James' parents were Patrick (1820) and Ann (Conlon) (1823) and Ellen's were Martin (1818) and Mary Noon (1820).

James and Ellen must have married around 1862 as their first child Mary Eleanor was born 1863. I believe they were Roman Catholic.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There is a big gap (1838-1867) with records for the Templeboy/Dromore West/Kilmacshalgan RC parish. Consequently, I was unable to find a church marriage record or a baptismal record. Civil registration did not begin until 1864.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0756

Did James and Ellen emigrate after thie first child was born?

  • Hi Roger

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes they did emigrate to England. They had 2 more children in Ireland, Catherine (1864) and Owen, who is born in the townland of Altans, Sligo in 1866. Their son Thomas was born in Seaham, Co.Durham in 1870, so they must have emigrated between 1866 - 1870.
