Hello everyone!

I need some help . I've found the marriage record of James Higgins and Mary Devlin, on 14th of September of 1819. Both parents of Mary Higgins, born 1st of march on 1825 . Is there any chance that you can look up for siblings of mary, and any information about her parents? The marriage took place on Templemichael, Longford. And is the place were Mary Higgins born also.

Thank you in advance!

  • Diana:

Baptismal records for Templemichael parish start in 1811. Mary Devlin would have been born 1800 or earlier so no baptismal record would be available.

  • Diana,

The paid site Roots Ireland shows their marriage taking place in Templemichael, Church of Ireland. Their daughter's baptism record shows the RC parish of Longford, not the COI parish of Templemichael. I did not find any other children.

  • that is wonderful... and thank you for this! What I am trying to understand, is the marriage of her prents on Church of Ireland... is that true? I thought they were Catholics ( all of them)

    TIA

  • Diana,

Their marriage date in your initial post is the same one that shows on Roots Ireland (14 Sept. 1819).....however, it has Margaret Devlin. I thought that perhaps this was incorrectly transcribed as I have seen the abbreviation for Margaret written as "Marg" in the records. It is often difficult to discern the "y" from the "g". Yes, it shows they were married in the Church of Ireland. I could not find another marriage record for James Higgins & Mary Devlin prior to the birth of Mary their daughter. I tried to look on the NLI register, but I could not locate September.
