Can anyone help me? My great grandfather James Lynch was born in Clogher, Co Tyrone on 28 May 1868. In 1905 he was in Sheffield working as a coachman at the Winter Street hospital. According to the 1911 census he had been married to my great grandmother Alice or Annie Cooper for 16 years. I believe she came from Dudley. I can find no record of a marriage and I don't know how, why or when great grandad came to England.

Many thanks in advance

  • Hi Lois,

It appears that James Lynch's father was named Felix Lynch and a farmer from Tullycorker, Clogher, Co. Tyrone. His molther was named Bridget Corrigan.

I have checked www.rootsireland.ie for a marriage of James. No record found.

You might check where their family were registered in England. It may indicate where the marriage took place.

I checked www.findmypast.ie for a marriage of James Lynch in Dudley. None found.

  • Hello

Thanks for the help - that's great. I've now traced him on the 1901 Irish census, still in Ireland and apparently single - the mystery deepens!  Like you I've been trawling through Find My Past to no avail, but I'll keep trying!

    All the best
