Looking for info on my ggg-grandfather James Revell.  I believe he was born in Co. Wicklow in 1804.  I have found a Grffith's Valuation for 1833 and 1839 showing him farming in Co. Kildare, Whitechurch, Ladycastle.  He married Eleanor Brass (1807-1874) in 1830 and they had 5 or 6 of their children baptized in Co.Kildare.  The family (incl. 9 children) emmigated through Dublin to New York in 1848 during the famines on the ship "Chester".

Any info on James's father, mother or siblings would be wonderful !

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I was unable to find a marriage record for James Revell and Eleanor Brass on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did locate baptismal records for all nine children on Roots Ireland in the Kill Church of Ireland parish in Kildare. Jane Eleanor 1832 Anna Maria 1834 Sarah Elizabeth 1835 Marcella Rebecca 1836 Martha Hannah 1838 William Alfred 1841 Joseph Henry 1843 Thomas Robert 1846 Nathaniel Francis 1847

I did not find a likely baptismal record for James Revell around 1804. Kill C of I baptismal records start in 1814.

Roots Ireland did not have any Brass baptismal records in Co. Kildare. The closest record was a Robert Brace in Celbride C of I cheuch in 1828.

I did find the 1833 land record for James Revell. It was actually from the Tithe Applotment process which was prior to the Griffiths Valuation process which started officially in 1848.

You may want to add the James Revell emigration story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Roger,

Thank you so much for your work on my family history !  I can now enter solid information for the baptism location of all 9 Revell children.

I found the 1830 marriage reference for James Revell and Eleanor Brass in the "Dublin, Ireland Probate Record and Marriage License Index, 1270-1858".  Her parents were John Gardner Brass (1756 Redcross, Wicklow - 1826 Dunganstown, Wicklow) and Mary Ann Revell (1777 - 1851 Dunganstown, Wicklow).

I will add the Emmigration story to the XO Chronicles section per your recommendation.

Thank you again...and Happy St. Patrick's Day !
