Looking for my Irish ancestors.  David Walsh my great grandfather born in 1864 in Carrowkeel North.  Immigrated to Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1881. Married Mary Ellen Keaveney.  Died in 1921 in Fitchburg.   He was the son of James Walsh and Mary Gibbons.  I am looking for information on his parents.  Thanks

  • Margaret:

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a David Walsh baptismal record with the parents names you listed on May 17 1859 in the Kilcommon Robeen RC church. Likely he made himself younger when he came to America. I did not see any baptismal records for siblings.

Roots Ireland has a May 16 1841 marriage record for a James Walsh and Mary Gibbons in the Crossboyne/Tagheen RC church which is the RC parish to the northeast from Kilcommon/Robeen.

The baptismal records for Kilcommon Robeen start in October 1857 so likely there are no baptismal records for the older siblings of David.

I looked for a baptismal record for Mary Gibbons in Crossboyne/Tagheen and the only possible record was in November 1828 which is too late since she would have been 12 or 13 at marriage.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hi Roger:   Thank you for the information.  I have Mary, Winifred, Michael and Ann as siblings of David who is the youngest.  Ann is listed as being born in mid 1858 in Kilcommon.   Thank you.  All my ancestors are From Ireland and the ones I have documented have all made themselves younger!   Thank you again
