Hi,
Posted a message recently for Jane Irvine and received a reply, but not being so used to posting messages, just in the last few minutes, I have inadvertantly cleared what I thought were duplicates, but succeeded in clearing all. As the previous one was quite long I have reduced it this time.
My great great grandmother emigrated from Ireland to Australia on the "Fitzjames", arriving in Sydney on 1 April 1857. Details from the ship's manifest indicate that she was 20 (estimated birth date from this), a Farm Servant, Protestant, who could read. Her parents were given as Richard and Anne, both deceased and origin location as Magheraculmoney Parish, Fermanagh. Immigration Deposit Journals, 1853-1900 for deposit date 9 May 1863, gives Jane's birth as 1836, Place of origin, Fermanagh, sponsored by John Johnston with details: Jane Irvine, 27, Servant, Drumborty/Drumboarty, Ederney, Fermanagh, Rev. Stack, Ederney, Fermanagh with Remarks (can't read first word) 64/149-21/4/64.
Also on board "Fitzjames", listed with single males was a Gerard Irvine, 20, Protestant, Parents Richard and Anne (dead), Labourer? of Drumkeen/Drumkeeran, Fermanagh. Might this be Jane's brother? Since posting first message, I have found quite a lot about Gerard and family in New South Wales (already knew Jane's history and family in NSW), but haven't yet established a connection with Jane although they both lived in the Southern Highlands (many Irvines emigrated). Waiting for Gerard's marriage and death certificates to arrive from NSW BDMs, but the Parish Register of Marriages for Jamberoo lists Richard Irvine, Farmer, and Ann/e Mark/Mack as Gerard's parents.
Have checked Ardess burials for Richard and Anne and those for Drumkeeran but with vital records too early for registration, can't be sure if any are correct.
Any suggestions about Irish origins much appreciated
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,
I noticed mention of Jamberoo.
My Irish people settled in Jamberoo. James Walker (Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone) & wife Margaret from Co Monaghan; whose parents were recorded on ship's manifest as Dead. James' mother was Isabella IRVINE.
I haven't been able to find her relatives but thought it interesting that a few Fermanagh Irvine's ended up in the Kiama region around the same time. Many of the families emigrated together &/or encouraged others to join them.
I recently joined a Facebook group called Remembering Jamberoo History. There are some great posts, & even a recent one mentioning Brandon Hill School students; Jane, Ethel & Amanda IRVINE.Julie Tawse

Hi Cheryl and Julie,
I don't think this will help much but here goes.
My ancestor Francis Brien of Kilskeery parish in Co. Tyrone was the son of Henry Brien and Mary Crawford.
The grave of Francis Brien and his two sisters is in Ardess churchyard, parish of Magheraculmoney. Beside them is buried James Crawford of Ederney, 1702-1788.
Mary Brien (born Crawford) mother of Francis, is buried in the same grave as Francis.(Ardess burials, courtesy Rev,. Henry Blair of Kesh).
James Crawford and Margaret Irvine were married by Licence, Diocese of Clogher (index only). There was a James Crawford in Enniskillen living at the same time as my James Crawford of Ederney so I cannot vouch for having Margaret Irvine as a direct ancestor.
There is such a large gap between your Irvines who emigrated to Australia and my? Margaret Irvine !
I am an Australian too by the way because my Brien ancestor (illegitimate son of Francis) came out here in 1836. I excuse Francis for his dalliance because his was an arranged marriage to a Crawford girl as was sometimes the custom in those day, to keep the assets in the family coffers.
Regards from Betty Garrad, of Buderim in Qld.

Hello Julie and Betty and to anyone reading this,
It seems we all have something in common - members of the Irvine family(ies) from Fermanagh and those who settled in Australia.
G.G. grandmother Jane lived at Jamberoo and married at what was then the temporary church at Foxground.
Burials for a Richard and Anne Irvine have been located, but as yet there is no indication that they are Jane Irvine's parents.
Richard Irvine from townland Tullanaglug, no age stated, on 15 Oct 1843 (Burials St Mary's Church, Ardess, Par. of Magheraculmoney)
Anne Irvine from townland Leaghan, aged 44, on 25 Apr 1849 (Burials St Mary's Church, Ardess, Par. of Magheraculmoney). This would indicate that Anne was born about 1805, but Irvine may not be her birth surname. Tullanaglug adjoins Leaghan?
A baptism has also been located for a Richard Irvine at St Mary's Church as 21 Apr 1800, son of Charles Irvine and Elizabeth (nee McBride), townland Clareview.
Any further clues, or suggestions, much appreciated
Cheryl

Hello all!
My GG gmother is Dorothea Irvine (1839) from Leitrim (fermanagh?). She moved to Australia and married Charles Dunn. I cannot work out her parents or siblings!
Ideas?
Many thanks
