Hi,
I am looking for information/records for Jeremiah Toomey born about 1819 Croagh, Limerick.
He emigrated to Australia arriving 22 November 1849 on ship "Una" with his daughter, Ellen. Ellen has Lisnamuck, Limerick for her listing.
That record has him aged 30 years. Religion: Church Of Rome.
His death on 9 December 1880 has parents as Thomas and Johannah.
I did locate a possible birth for his daughter, Ellen on ancestry.com born 1840 baptism 10 April 1840 Limerick, Croagh, Ireland. Parents: Jeremiah Towmey and Margaret McNamara Sponsors: Honora Towmey
I believe Ellen's mother may have died in Limerick and Jeremiah remarried....Ellen's brother Michael was born in 1850 in NSW Australia and was listed as her half brother.
You can see Jeremiah on findagrave #49603556
with his wife Mary and son Michael and his family.
Hoping someone can help with this family's records.
Thankyou
Seaspray

Hi Roger,
Thankyou so much for all this information. Are there any death records for these children as the emigration only lists Jeremiah, Ellen and Mary.
Hopefully, a marriage record can be located for Jeremiah Twomey and Margaret McNamara and a possible death for Margaret between 1843 and 1844.
Have a great day,
Kindest Regards,

Civil registration of deaths did not begin until 1864. Some RC churches have death records prior to 1864 but Croagh church does not have records. Marriages records for Croagh do not start until January 1844.
However, Roots Ireland did have a May 6 1838 marriage record between a John Tuomy of Croagh and Margaret McNamara in the Kilcornan RC church. Kilcornan is two parishes to the north of Croagh. I looked at the actual parish register entry and it clearly shows Joannes.

Marriages normally were held in the bride's parish and the entry shows that John Toumy was from Croagh. There were no baptismal records for children of John Toumy and Margaret McNamara so I'm inclined to believe that John and Jeremiah were the same person,

Hi Roger,
Thankyou for all the information you have given me.
I am very grateful for your assistance.
Sometimes, names are incorrectly recorded.
If Margaret did pass away prior to Jeremiah's marriage to Mary, would there be cemetery records somewhere?
Kindest Regards,

Likely there are no records available back to the 1840s. You can send an e-mail to the Croagh church croaghkilfinny@eircom.net to see how far back their records go.

Hi Roger,
I had a lovely reply from Croagh Parish Priest.
With the marriage record you have found for Jeremiah Toomey and Maria Connors, are their parents listed?
Can you capture the marriage record for Jeremiah and Maria and the baptism records for Thomas, Mary and Bridget Toomey you located? I have Ellen's record.
There may also be a baptism for Marie Twomey 24 September 1846. Possible Mary and Marie are twins? Both with parents Jeremiah and Maria.
I am extremely grateful to you for your kindness in assisting me with my requests.
There are no death records in the Croagh Parish registers as you had already mentioned.
Enjoy your day,
Kindest Regards
Ella
