This couple baptized what appears to be their first child, Bridget, on 7 October 1833 in Scrabby, Cavan and Longford(Diocese of Ardagh). Can anyone point me in the correct direction for their Marriage record and where I might look for their baptism records please? Many thanks.

Fiona:
The only Co. Cavan marriage for John Brady and Mary Smyth/Smith on the subscription site Roots Ireland was January 15 1815 in Cavan town parish. I assume that marriage was too early for your ancestors??
The marriage records for Scrabby/Loch Gowna RC parish do not start until 1855.
Looking at baptismal records there were a number of baptismal records where the parents were John Brady and Mary Smyth/Smith in Co. Cavan from 1823 on. Both surnames were very common in Co. Cavan so I'm wondering if there were two, three or four couples with those names. You believe that Bridget was the first child. I see five possible younger siblings with baptismal records in Loch Gowna: Anne 1835 Peter 1835 Bridget 1837 James 1839 Mary 1843.

Hi Roger, Thank you but I suspect 1815 is too early. I believe that Elphin and Meath are the neighbouring Diocese, do you think it is worth searching these or am I looking for a record that isn't anywhere? Many thanks. Fiona

Fiona:
I just went back to the subscription site Roots Ireland and searched for all John Brady/Mary Smyth marriages in Ireland and the only one before 1833 was the 1815 record I previously mentioned.
I don't think church records are available for your family.

Many thanks for this and thanks for looking anyway. If I skip the marriage is it still possible to find their Baptism records? Can you suggest where I should look for these? Thank again. Fiona

Fiona:
The problem is that both names are very common so there would be no way of determining if you had the correct record. Also, they were likely born 1810 plus or minus 5 years and many RC parishes do not have records back to that time period.

Hi Roger,
Ok thanks anyway. I will focus on his siblings and see where I get with that.
