If they followed the Irish naming pattern, the first son was named after father's father & second daughter after father's mother
I searched for Cassidy with parents William & Elizabeth & got 23 in Donegal, Derry, Antrim but the earliest is 1842. Donegals are Presbyterean, Derry C of I & Antrim R C
The Tithe Applotments are free to search online at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/
There are 73 John Cassidys in various counties including Monaghan in the 1820-30's
There are also 10 in the 1821 Irish Census but none in Monaghan or Armagh http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
