Hello, 

I really struggle with researching my Irish ancestry so I was delighted when I heard about this website. I'm hoping I can finally find the parents and further ancestry of my 4th-Great-Grandfather John Chalk. Through my family research I've discovered he was born in Roscommon, Ireland. This is all the evidence I can provide as it is what I have discovered in census records. 

John, by 1834, is living in Birmingham, Warkwickshire, England. He married Ann Aston Willmott in 1834. His occupation in all the census records I can find after his marriage list his occupation as "labourer" and later as a bricklayer. His place of birth is listed as "Ireland" and "County Roscommon, Ireland".

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

    I was unable to locate a baptismal record for John Chalk on Roots Ireland. Many churches do not have records back to 1807. 

    You may want to consider DNA testing and possibly you will have matches to someone who has Chalk connections and knows more about the origins of the family in Ireland.

    Thank you for checking for John's baptism record. 

    I have had a DNA test taken from myself and my father, and we have matched a Chalk descendant, but they don't have any infomation about the Irish connection either.

  • My Wife is also connected to John Chalk, he was her 4 x Great Grandfather.  We too have seen the census information for Roscommon but have yet to find any birth records and obviously another generation.  Did you have any luck ? I know this is quite an old thread but, maybe you still use this site ? Phil & Jan.

  • I've also found this thread when searching for information on my 4th Great Grandfather John Chalk from Roscommon. Would be interested to get in touch with his other relatives and hear any updates.

    I'm sorry for the late reply. 

    Sadly, I was unable to discover any further information on John Chalk and his links to County Roscommon.

    Have you discovered any interesting info about the Chalk family?
