John Roney b.1806 Ireland

In the mid-19th century the surname Roney was primarily found  in Co. Down. Possibly the surname was the much more common Rooney when John Roney was in Ireland.

I did a search on the subscription site Roots Ireland and there were a two John Rooney baptismal records in the suburbs of Dublin and other John Roney/Rooney baptismal records from 1802-1805 records in other counties. Without knowing his parents names, we can't confirm any of these records. It is also possible that his baptismal record is not available.

Your friend should probably take a DNA test. Possibly he will have matches on his Roney/Rooney line and those matches would have more info on the origins of the family in Ireland.

If you are not finding John Roney and family in the UK records, it is possible they emigrated--say, to the US, Canada, Australia.  Also look for the name Rooney.  I hope this helps.

Living at Cistern Gate, Louth, Lincolnshire with his mother Mary and sister Ellen . Mary is married to a tradesman, her birth year is est,1818, her birthplace Firsby Lincolnshire. Ellen is 11 years.
