My Grandad, John Was born on November 9th 1933, out of wedlock. His Mum was Mary Davis (Nee Toole) and his Dad was Richard Davis. His parents married a couple of years later in 1935 in Bray, Wicklow.  The registration district for Grandad’s birth was  was Rathdrum, Delgany.

On the original birth entry, there were not any details for Richard and his mum is named as Mary Toole. His fathers details  were added in 1987 when Grandad had his birth certificate details amended.  It states that he was born at 25 St. Claire’s Villas, Boghall. I cannot find any trace of this address. Does anyone know if it was just a residential address? Was it a mother and baby home? Any information on the area would be greatly appreciated.  I have tried looking it up online but cannot find anything other than a road called Boghall Road.  I do know Mary Toole’s parents were John Toole and Margaret Toole (Nee Kinsella).

I would love to be able to look at where my Grandfather was baptised but I don’t know where to begin looking.

Many thanks

Louise

  • Hi Louise,

Unfortunately due to Data Protection and Privacy laws, our research has to do with over 100 years and persons who are not living.

However, to further your research perhaps it would be helpful for you to write a letter to the Editor of a local Wicklow newspaper, the Wicklow People (https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wicklowpeople/localnotes/) or the Wicklow Times (http://wicklowtimes.net/contact/). Or, based on the information you have provided above, perhaps the Bray newspaper, the Bray People, would be useful (https://www.independent.ie/regionals/braypeople/news/).

The Wicklow Heritage site may also be of interest to you if you have not already had a look at it (https://wicklowheritage.org/).

I wish you luck in your search and hope you find the information you are looking for.

    Dawn
