Hello looking to find information on my great great grandfather John William? Mcdermott and his ancestors what I have found from his Canadian war papers was he was born in Newtowngore co letriem in 17 aug 1883 and I know he immigrated to Halifax Nova Scotia Canada ANY information anyone can dig up for me would be greatly appreciated

Hello Edwin, I have been asked to look at unansweered questions and here I am, there is no record of a John McDermott born on the dates you supply. There is one John McDermott born to an Edward McDermott and Mary Creamer (Say Kramer) born on 22 Jan 1882 and registered very quickly on the 24th Jan 1882, there was a penalty for late registration and the "I do not believe that in me" thinks he was a late registration and may have been born earlier, however that is just my bad mind, unfortunately the area of Newtowngore is in the parish of Carrigallen and baptisms records appear to cease in 1881 and he may have the dates correct as in month and year. There were a number of siblings to this couple including a William. There are also two other McDermott / Creamer marriages. The site Irish Genealogy is free and has all civil births from 1864. RC Registers are free online also but a difficult search as only by month and year and the writing is not always great.
