Based on DNA results and other clues I am starting to think that my ancestor Elizabeth Neill (c. 1819-1881) was the daughter of Joseph Neill and Elizabeth Huggard, a Protestant couple in Killeenafinane. Elizabeth married Robert McCarthy (c. 1812-1870) who was lock keeper of the Tralee Canal and then Harbour Master of Tralee. They named a son Joseph. A lot of my Dad's DNA matches connect up with Neills and other families in Killeenafinane. Does anyone know anything about this family? Thanks!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The 1825 Tithe listings for Kiltallagh civil parish http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625687/004625687_00209.pdf show a Charles and Joseph Neill with land in Killeenafinnane. Likely this is your ancestor.. The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kiltallagh parish shows four O'Neills: James, John Joseph and Patrick. https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/kerry/kiltallagh.htm
The Church of Ireland records for Kiltallagh parish up to 1880 were destroyed in the 1922 Public Records Office fire.

Thanks! Does the name "John Joseph" in Griffith's suggest his father was Joseph? I have also found a John Charles

Sorry, I left out a comma between John and Joseph. There were four: James, John, Joseph and Patrick.

Hi Catherine! I would be very interested to know anything about this family. I have tried to follow the descendants down, and it gets very confusing with Neills marrying Neills. I noticed that someone named Elsie Ahern put up a monument to this family in the Kiltallagh graveyard in 2003. Thanks for any help.
