R I am grandaughter of frances kearney &michael mccool who were married in sacred heart church in carndonagh in approx. 1879-she was daughter of edward kearney & 'catherine doherty.Michael mccool was son of John mccool & mary kearney.I have much more info re:their siblings etc & would like to know if any of their ancestors live in carndonagh areaThey immigrated to America soon after marriage &-settled in Washinton Pa Usa & both are buried their.They had 5 children (yougest was my father)they also had 2 other children who died young.MY grandmother was born April 1860 .my grandmother's parents were from Mullins.My grandfathers'mother was from Tierneleague

  • I see what looks to be the civil marriage between Michael M’Cool and Frances Anne Kearney, registered in Inishowen, Apr – Jun 1879 Volume 2, page 103. (A civil marriage cert generally contains more information than the religious one). You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4 (euros).  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

    You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

    Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church which should be on the certificate, (unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings. The RC parish records are on-line free on the National Library site:

    I can see at least 1 McCool in Tiernaleague in the current Irish phone book.

  • Am trying to find descendants of michael mccool & frances kearney who were married in carndonagh in 1879.They came to USA soon after that.
    Michael was son of john mccool& mary kearney--frances was daughter of katherine dougherty(b. Approx 1822) & ed kearney(b. Approx 1792)
    would anyone have any info on any of descendants of katherine &/or ed?
