I'm looking for information on my 4x great grandfather Owen Kelly + his family. I have not had much success tracing them. This is what I know
Owen Kelly married Ann Hanlon on 24th March 1858 in dromintee. They had two sons in Cloughinny Lawrence 1860 + Michael 1862. I have found the parish records for the boys births but can't find the marriage. They moved to Lockerbie Scotland + went on to have 8 more children. John, Thomas, William, David, Mary, Susan, Elizabeth and Catherine. On the children born in Scotland birth certificates it tells the date +. Place of marriage.
Owen was said to be a skin and rag gatherer or hawker on Scotland census'
Owens death certificate states his parents names were Lawrence Kelly + Esther Quinn or Queen, surname isnot really legible.
Ann's death certificate only lists her parents as Hanlin.
On Lawrence's baptism record one of his sponsors was Terence Kelly and on Michael's his sponsor was Anne Kelly. I wondered if this was maybe a clue.
I have checked the parish register for dromintee but can't find the marriage.
I have looked on Griffiths + there are Kelly's but I don't have enough info to make a link.

  • There are several churches close to Dromintee, ie Forkill, Killevy Upper & Killevy Lower. I searched all their records but did not find the marriage. There don’t appear to be any gaps in the records, so can’t offer any information.

There is an Owen Kelly listed in Griffiths Valuation for Cloghinny in 1864, having a one seventh share of plot 20, along with 6 other Kellys. (Modern Cloghinny Rd). He was also listed there in the tithes in 1828 so it may not be the same Owen who married Ann Hanlon as he was evidently an adult in 1828.

I looked for deaths for Lawrence & Esther Kelly but did not find either 1864 onwards. 1864 is when death registration started so if they died before that there may be no record of it.

  • Thanks for that. I have joined a few sites like ancestry + my heritage but no one seems to be looking for the same family as me. They are a total mystery.
